The Seven Deadly Sins
MAP's Annual Benefit Exhibition, Auction & Gala
Auction & Gala: Friday, November 7, 2008
Exhibition dates: November 7-15, 2008
On behalf of the Board of Trustees and staff of Maryland Art Place (MAP), we wish to thank the attendees and supporters of MAP’s fall benefit exhibition and gala, The Seven Deadly Sins, held on Friday, November 7, 2008.
Inspired by sinful decadence and delightful hedonism, event Co-Chairs Barbie Hart, Suzi Cordish, and Samuel Polakoff created an enchanting evening, featuring an exceptional seated dinner, memorable entertainment and a gothic-like ambience including a dramatic entrance of flowing material suspended from the ceiling and silver candelabras on each table. Highlights from the event include: Cigarette Girls showing off their wares; a bag full of sinful favors for each guest; an interpretive performance of the Seven Deadly Sins by the Daniel Burkholder dance troupe; a live auction of exclusive packages and getaways; and hand-selected work from over forty artists featured in a silent auction.
We are pleased to report that this year’s gala grossed $96,000 and that 51% of the artwork exhibited sold. As an organization that values the contributions of its artists, MAP will return 40% of each sale to the exhibitors. Proceeds from the event will directly support MAP’s programming and educational initiatives throughout the upcoming year. MAP would like to extend its sincere appreciation to everyone involved in making the gala a success, notably: the event Co-Chairs; Benefit Committee members; participating artists; and our fantastic volunteers and interns, without whom this event would not have been possible.
Thank you for your assistance in sustaining MAP’s vital mission.
Stay tuned for photos from the event!
