"Trashy Art"

Befitting its reputation as both a model of recycling and an artistic enclave in the DC area, Takoma Park is proud to launch a new art movement - the School of Trash-Can Art. This art contest is sponsored by the Takoma Park Arts and Humanities Commission and the City of Takoma Park’s Public Works Department.

Anyone and everyone is eligible to submit an original 2 or 3 dimensional work of “trashy art” made of 100 percent trash or recyclable materials. Works are to be delivered to the Takoma Park Community Center (7500 Maple Avenue, Takoma Park MD) no later than 11 AM on Saturday, October 18.

The "Trashy Art" will be on display throughout the day as a part of the Arts and Humanities Day celebration on Saturday, October 18. Awards will be presented by a panel of distinguished judges and by popular vote at 2 PM.

32nd Annual Juried Fine Arts Exhibition

The Smithtown Township Arts Council is now accepting entries for its 32nd Annual Juried Fine Arts Exhibition to be held December 6 – 30, 2008, at the Mills Pond House Gallery with cash prizes. Juror: Tina Kukielski of the Whitney Museum of American Art. Open to all artists working in 2D and 3D except photography and crafts. Work may not exceed 54" in width. Deadline for entries is October 21, 2008, and must be submitted as 300 ppi jpeg files on CD only (1800x1800). Cultural Arts Showcase 2009!

The Howard County Arts Council is now accepting artist applications for its annual Cultural Arts Showcase presented in partnership with the Recreation & Leisure Service Branch (RALS) of the Maryland Recreation & Parks Association (MRPA). The event will be held at Howard County Center for the Arts at 8510 High Ridge Road in Ellicott City on March 5 & 6, 2008. Showcase is a program to assist school and civic organizations in identifying performing, visual and literary artists for workshops, performances, demonstrations, and in-school residencies. Attendees of Showcase include cultural arts representatives, PTA Representatives, festival and special event coordinators from Recreation and Parks and other members of the community. The deadline to apply is November 7, 2008. Transaction Analysis- Call for Entries

Anne Arundel Community College’s Cade Art Gallery announces a call for entries to “Transaction Analysis.” This all-media exhibit seeks artworks that explore new views of consumer and corporate culture. The exhibit’s juror is Irene Hofmann, Executive Director, The Contemporary Museum, Baltimore, MD. Artists may submit up to six digital files on CD or slides by December 10, 2008. ANGELLFALLS STUDIO II

Angelfalls Studio II has opened it's doors in Hampden. Some of you may remember Angelfalls Studio in Remington. After 2 years, owner Hollis Albert has reopened the gallery along with Flip's at Clipper Mill. Flip's at Clipper Mill is the first level bar and restaurant while the second floor is Angelfall Studios II. Our exhibits run for a month and the openings are the first Sunday of every month. We are always accepting submissions from artists locally, nationally and internationally. Feel free to contact Natalie or Hollis to set up a appointment to see the gallery and drop off your materials or submissions will be accepted by mail or email. We are interested in seeing all mediums.

Altered I/Altared Eye, a Maryland based publication whose mission is to "be a creative voice for all artists regardless of mental, emotional or physical challenges"  is seeking art, poetry, photography, prose, opinion pieces and plays on the following themes for inclusion in our journal:1. EXHIBIT OPPORTUNITIES AT HOWARD COUNTY CENTER FOR THE ARTS

The Howard County Center for the Arts, a 27,000 square foot facility located in Ellicott City, Maryland, is seeking proposals from artists and curators nationwide for solo and group exhibits for the 2009-2010 gallery season. All original artwork in any media, including installations, will be considered for the general review. Qualifications: Work previously shown at the Howard County Center for the Arts will not be accepted for review, nor will work previously submitted to the gallery program in the past year. There is no fee to apply. Artists must be at least 18 years old. 3rdfloor seeks thoughtful and critical submissions of all mediums and genres for our 3rd issue. We are a quarterly print magazine comprised entirely of submissions from the public. Overview of Job Description:
The Registry Coordinator oversees all functions of The Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC) Visual Artists’ Registry, including: maintaining an online database of artist profiles, offering technical assistance to artists, and promoting the Registry as a valuable free resource for the artistic community.

The Registry Coordinator position is a part time position of 24 hours per week and includes excellent health benefits.

Overview of Job Description:
The Programming Assistant aids with various administrative and programmatic tasks including: maintaining the organization’s website, generating a quarterly e-newsletter, documenting the exhibitions and receptions, and assisting with bulk mailings, events, and exhibition installations. The Programming Assistant position is a part-time, 16-hour per week position.

Duties include:
+Assisting with gallery preparation: spackling walls, painting, and coordinating exhibition logistics
+Helping with the installation and de-installation of MAP’s exhibitions
+Wrapping and storing artwork using proper art handling techniques
+Coordinating the loan of artworks and maintaining correspondence with artists
+Organizing, writing, and collecting information for exhibition postcards, catalogues, and other printed materials

Haitian Art Show at St Martin’s-in-the-Field Episcopal Church

With the current Hurricane situation the need for Haiti at this time is great.
A Haitian Art Exhibit and Sale featuring paintings by well known and established contemporary artists of Haiti will be hosted by St. Martin’s In-the-Field Episcopal Church for an exclusive area art showing. The opening reception will be on Friday, October 3rd from 7 – 9 pm. Other hours for viewing the art show are Saturday, October 4th 11 am – 7 pm, Sunday, October 5th 10 am – 5 pm, and Monday, October 6th 10 am –1 pm.

Sales from the art exhibit at St Martin’s will benefit St. Martin’s Haiti Partnership with La Resurreccion School in Gros Morne, Haiti. St Martin’s In-the-Field Episcopal Church and Day School have been major supporters of La Resurreccion School for over 25 years.

All art in the exhibit is presented by the Rainbow Gallery of Port-au-Prince, Haiti Bernard Delatour will be present from the Rainbow Gallery to answer questions about the art and life in Haiti.

GBCA IS ESTABLISHING "THE LAB." VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

The Lab will offer support for individual artists and GBCA cultural organization members in creating and preparing digital audio, video and photographic representation of their work for optimal posting on the web. ACTION IN MATURITY QUILTING CLUB

The AIM quilters include a diverse group of noble women who consistently serve their community doing what they love to do - sewing quilts. Many of the quilters who make up this group are part of Tom Brokaw’s “Greatest Generation” and have been members of AIM since its inception. Despite their age in years, these wonderful women use their nimble fingers to create lovely works of art and offer care and warmth to those in need. In addition to working on personal projects, the quilters unite their skills to make baby quilts for the Well Baby Clinic at the GBMC Foundation and are currently making quilts that are sent to the Walter Reed Hospital for our wounded service men and women.
