Celebrating the 5th Anniversary of the Dedication of the James Backas Gallery
Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC) invites artists and curators to submit exhibition proposals for realization in its gallery space from Fall 2009 through June 2010 to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the dedication of the James Backas Gallery at MSAC. 10th Annual Will's Creek Survey Exhibition: Cumberland, MD
The 10th Annual Will's Creek Survey is a juried art exhibition that is open to visual artists from across the United States. The exhibition is held in the Allegany Arts Council's Saville Gallery, located at 9 North Centre Street in Downtown Cumberland's Arts & Entertainment District.
The exhibit showcases a wide variety of contemporary art and fine craft, and always draws an enthusiastic audience from the local community and the surrounding region. Each year, the Will's Creek Survey invites a well-respected arts professional to jury the entries and travel to Cumberland to present the awards at the Opening Reception. This year's juror will be Phyllis Rosenzweig. Rosenzweig is Curator Emerita of the Smithsonian Institution's Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden.

The Sixth Biennial SCULPTURE AT EVERGREEN 2010 SIMULATANEOUS PRESENCE: Baltimore, MD
The 2010 Sculpture at Evergreen will be co-curated by a pair of individuals, an architect and an artist, whose shared interest in the particularities and character of place is shaped by their respective disciplines. Their dialogue and simultaneous presence invites other visual thinkers to engage Evergreen through their work and to contribute to an embedded conversation on the intertwining of moment and place. A $4000 honorarium will be awarded for selected artists for design and fabrication (materials) of site-specific works. A minimum of two site visits is required.
Projects will be selected by guest curators Jennie Fleming, artist and Associate Director of The Art Gallery, University of Maryland, College Park; and Ronit Eisenbach, architect, Associate Professor and Director of Kibel Gallery, School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation at the University of Maryland, College Park. ART BANK 2009: Washington DC
The DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities is purchasing artwork to be part of the District of Columbia's 2009 Art Bank Program. The Art Bank is a growing collection of moveable works funded through DC Creates Public Art Program. Works in the collection are owned by the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities and are loaned to other District Government agencies for display in public areas of government buildings. This collection helps preserve the city's past and is an important legacy for future generations. Currently, nearly 2000 artworks are on display in over 150 District government agencies. This is an opportunity for artists to exhibit their work as part of our continued commitment to supporting our vibrant artistic community and its excellence.
Artwork: The Art Bank Advisory Committee will select two-dimensional works including prints, drawings, mixed media, paintings, and photographs. The artwork submitted for consideration must be available for purchase and review (see calendar). Artwork must be created with archival materials. Works in series with smaller dimensions will also be considered. Work must have been created within the last five years to be eligible. The Commission is interested in diversity amongst its artists, images of the city and its citizens, particularly the youth.
Eligibility: This competition is open to professional artists who live in the District of Columbia, Virginia and Maryland. Preference will be given to artists who reside in the District of Columbia.

2009 Arts on Foot Art Market- Downtown DC
Diverse Markets Management announces a call to artists for the 2009 Arts on Foot Art Market, held September 10, 11, and 12. The Weekday Art Market on Thursday and Friday will be held on the wide sidewalk of F Street, NW between 7th & 9th Streets. The full festival on Saturday will take place on F Street, NW between 6th & 7th and between 7th & 9th Streets, and 8th Street between E & F Streets in Washington DC in front of the Smithsonian Portrait Museum. The Art Market highlights the work of local, regional and national visual artists. 80-100 artists will be selected to exhibit in 13 media categories. All work must be original and completely artist-produced; imports and re-sales are not permitted.
All artists wishing to participate must complete an application and pay a $25 application fee. An independent professional jury will review applications, images of products, and booth display. Solo Exhibitions for 2010 Accepting Submissions: Arlington, VA
Every year the Arlington Arts Center (AAC) puts together two solo exhibitions for mid-Atlantic artists who are working with contemporary or experimental media, and the entry form for the 2010 SOLO shows are now available. This is a perfect opportunity if you would like to have your own independent show in one of our nine premiere gallery spaces. The deadline for applications is August 1st, however if you submit work for consideration before June 1st, you will receive a discounted application fee.

Call for Entry: The James L. Pierce Gallery
We are inviting visual artists to participate in a showcase of multi-media art (including sculpture, paintings, prints, photography, and mixed media) on display for the months of November - December of 2009. We are located at Green Spring Station right outside of Baltimore off of Route I-83, where Joppa Road and Falls Road intersect.
Each artist may submit a maximum of 3 pieces, original works only, professionally framed, and ready to exhibit. Size is limited to no more than 3 feet wide by 3 feet high. Curators reserve the right to select artwork based on space limitations and quality of work. Submissions should include an artist's biography or statement and either a web link or high quality images, with enclosed descriptions of the 3 selected works. Please include prices, medium, and sizes of the work with your entry. Entries will be accepted by mail, email, or in person. Slides or incomplete entries will not be reviewed.

Cade Art Gallery announces a call for entries to “New Narratives”
Anne Arundel Community College's Cade Art Gallery announces a call for entries to “New Narratives.” This all-media exhibit seeks artworks that explore stories and messages in contemporary ways. New Baltimore Site is Looking For Artists
Baltidome.com is a new Baltimore Green Guide & Insider Site published to the web in January 2009. Among other things, the Baltidome aims to promote artists who are working (or have completed projects) with used goods and remnant materials. No application fee is required. This service is free to artists living in Baltimore City. The artist’s work does not have to be about “the environment” and no membership is required. This is an effort not only to promote local artists, but also to encourage viewers to look at how things are made in a new way. Baltidome reserves the right to reject an applicant that does not fit the criteria or does not fit the standards of the site. ANGELLFALLS STUDIO II
Angelfalls Studio II has opened it's doors in Hampden. Some of you may remember Angelfalls Studio in Remington. After 2 years, owner Hollis Albert has reopened the gallery along with Flip's at Clipper Mill. Flip's at Clipper Mill is the first level bar and restaurant while the second floor is Angelfall Studios II. Our exhibits run for a month and the openings are the first Sunday of every month. We are always accepting submissions from artists locally, nationally and internationally. EXHIBIT OPPORTUNITIES AT HOWARD COUNTY CENTER FOR THE ARTS
The Howard County Center for the Arts, a 27,000 square foot facility located in Ellicott City, Maryland, is seeking proposals from artists and curators nationwide for solo and group exhibits for the 2009-2010 gallery season. All original artwork in any media, including installations, will be considered for the general review. Qualifications: Work previously shown at the Howard County Center for the Arts will not be accepted for review, nor will work previously submitted to the gallery program in the past year. There is no fee to apply. Artists must be at least 18 years old. ACTION IN MATURITY QUILTING CLUB
The AIM quilters include a diverse group of noble women who consistently serve their community doing what they love to do - sewing quilts. Many of the quilters who make up this group are part of Tom Brokaw’s “Greatest Generation” and have been members of AIM since its inception. Despite their age in years, these wonderful women use their nimble fingers to create lovely works of art and offer care and warmth to those in need. In addition to working on personal projects, the quilters unite their skills to make baby quilts for the Well Baby Clinic at the GBMC Foundation and are currently making quilts that are sent to the Walter Reed Hospital for our wounded service men and women.
